Cambridge Vegans

Is it okay to breast feed a child who you plan to raise vegan?
Hey all,
I am part of a vegan family (residing in Cambridge MA), and my partner and myself plan to raise a child according to the vegan doctrine (no animal products, including milk, leather, and caviar). We do not want our child to EVER consume animal products… so this would include breast milk, right? We do not want our child to develop a taste for milk and eventually to seek milk when it is not under our supervision. What do you guys think?

Vegans breast feed their children; just as cows’ milk is intended for their young, so human milk is intended for human young.
The only vegan mother I’ve ever known who didn’t breast feed was, to her regret, unable to.
People are vegan to minimise their contribution to animal suffering and exploitation. There is no exploitation involved in a mother voluntarily giving her baby the food that is intended for it.
And there is no reason to suppose that a breast fed baby will develop a taste for cow’s milk.
The Subway diet must have got a little repetitive for a vegan, hmmm?

Edit* Sara W, in what way does someone (who I suspect isn’t vegan) asking whether vegans breastfeed provide proof that a vegan lifestyle isn’t natural?
