Health Problems Vegans

How can I gain some weight?
I’ve been vegetarian for 3 years and have never had any problems health-wise. However, I went vegan a couple of months ago and have lost a considerable amount of weight. Well, according to the scale, I’ve only lost about 5 pounds, but my bones are sticking out all over the place and I haven’t been getting my period. =S l’ve always been kind of bony, but not to this extent. How can I gain some weight on a vegan diet? I’m 14, by the way.
Well, you are obviously not taking in the same amount of something, right?
My first guess, the key here being your period, is that you lack fat in your diet (and on your body). Once a woman’s body fat gets to a certain point, your period will stop. Why? Because your body thinks it is in an emergency situation, where there is not enough available nutrients to support a baby. Mother’s need to have fat storage to help with feeding the baby. There is a lot of estrogen in fat tissue, so that’s how it works… fat goes down, and so does estrogen… and so does period.
This happens to women athletes such as competitive runners when they are leading up to a competition and doing lots of training and their body fat reaches it’s lowest point. Once fat comes back, so will your period.
Okay, so you need some good fats in your diet.
Good fats:
Cold pressed organic oils stored non-plastic non-clear containers (some companies such as Omega claim specially formulated plastic containers that do not leech [or leech very very little]).
Flax oil, extra virgin olive oil, hemp seed oil, sesame oil, coconut butter/oil, actual nuts and seeds, peanut butter (not a nut), soy beans, avocados, … lots of sources.
The only oil I think is most suitable for cooking is olive oil — very high burn point — plus the really good qualities about oils such as flax will be damaged by heat.
Also, exercise more, gain muscle.
Also, eat more. Specifically eat what? Things you enjoy eating — there is no special food… all food is good.
