Vegan moms: Are you raising your children to be vegan as well?

I have an 8month old, and I ‘m thinking of raising her vegan. What are your experiences? Give me some info to help me make up my mind. What do your kids eat instead of meat and dairy?

Dear Mr Velvet, my child will not eat any of those. We are overpopulated with ignorant people as well. With your logic we should eat them too.

We’re not going to be raising him vegan per se, but we are not going to give him meat or dairy until he asks for it. If he asks, he can have it and I’ll make it.

Lydia, exactly how is it dangerous? People aren’t MEANT to eat dairy, and we’re meant to eat very little meat. There are better, healthier sources of protein than animal protein.

As for B 12, admittedly, it is more of an issue for a child who is being raised vegan. If you eat meat for several years, and then become vegan, you have enough B6 and B12 vitamin stored to last the rest of your life. Your child probably gets a little of the vitamin from breastfeeding or formula, I’m not sure. But not enough to last a life time. So you will have to give her a supplement.

Until he asks for animal products, he’ll be eating leafy greens for calcium, fruits.vegetables, nuts and seeds for zinc, nuts, seeds and legumes for iron and protein. Rice milk or breast milk instead of milk. You can bake with breast milk, did you know that?

The only exception is that I might give him organic yogurt like yo baby if he needs antibiotics and he’s no longer nursing, because most yogurts have probiotics so in theory, the probiotics would keep his good bacteria balanced while the antibiotics killed the bad bacteria.
