Skinny Vegans

Do you stereotype vegetarians and vegans?
So many comments are made in the veggie catagory about vegetarians and vegans being smelly, sickly, skinny hippies. As a vegetarian, I am absolutely none of those things. They say they dont like someone shoving their views down their throat, but eating meat is shoved down our throat all of the time-from tv advertising, to limited meat free choices in restaurants. Just wondering what the masses think
Being married to a vegetarian and me myself being a pollo vegetarian (occassionally still eat chicken) – I have seen my fair share of stereotypes!
Most of the people assume he will eat pork or other non “beefy” meals – some people think being vegetarian is just not eating the “red” meat. They will offer him all kinds of non vegetarian items – it reminds me of the movie “My Big Fat Greek Wedding” when the aunt offers him the lamb! LOL too funny!
Most people I run into think being a vegetarian is like joining a cult! Others I spoken to believe we only eat TOFU and nothing else so they think we have boring diets. I say that it’s easier today to be a vegetarian then it was about 10 years ago – thankgoodness for Boca products! LOL….
Sometimes when I have parties I serve vegetarian dishes (meatless meatballs with spicy spagehtti sauce) the non vegetarians eat those like thier is no tomorrow and they don’t even know it’s NOT REAL meat!!! It’s so funny!
As for pushing our views on to anyone – that is something we don’t do – and I have never run into a vegetarian that has done that to anyone else – it’s not like we are going door to door to spread the “good word”.
I think we should have more ads on TV about eating vegetarian meals – no more burger commercials! It’s not very appitizing to see someone stuff thier face with a big fat greasy burger – I cringe everytime I see that and think of the poor cows. And why is at restuarants they assume all vegetarians enjoy EGGPLANT!! I personally do like that! But it’s funny that item is offered on all vegetarian sections in a meat dominating restuarant!
I believe it’s just a lack of education and exporsure – the more people learn about what it is to be a vegetarian the more they will understand that all of us do not just live on granola!
