Vegans Bacteria

vegans bacteria
is mucus/ bacteria/ fungus considered an animal? ?

if it is, can it be said that it’s un-vegan-like to eat mushrooms?

Ok, I’ll explain this using the system I’ve learned in most of my bio and micro classes.

To understand the differences.. I’ll start with the basic of life. What is “life”? Most biology text books state that they must have these characteristics.

1) Metabolism (open system)
2) Reproduction (growth)
3) Differentiation (formation of new cell structure)
4) Communication (primarily by means of chemicals taken in or released)
5) Movement (self propulsion)
6) Evolution (new biological properties over time **change in characteristics**)

There are 2 primary empires in the tree of life.
Eukaryote and Prokaryotes. From here, various branches divide into what we know as the domains. These include Bacteria, Archaea and Eukarya. Both Bacteria and Archaea are prokaryotes, while Eukarya are eukaryotes.

Eukaryote
“A cell or organism having a membrane-enclosed nucleus and normally organelles”.

Prokaryote
“Cell / organism lacking a nucleus and other membrane-enclosed organelles and usually having its DNA in a single circular molecule”

Prokaryotes consist of Bacteria and Archaea. (as mentioned above)

Eukaryotes, however, branch into different kingdoms… commonly recognized as such.
Kingdoms:
**Plants
**Fungi
**Animals
(Most do not recognize protists as a kingdom)

Now… lets take a look.

Bacteria: Not in the animal kingdom, not in the same domain, nor the same empire. Considered an animal? Not even close!

Fungus: In the same domain, different kingdom.
Not considered an animal.

Mucus: Formed by mucous membranes, mucus is widely secreted by animals.
Is it in the animal kingdom? Yes, most animals do secrete this.. but it of itself is not an animal.

So for your answer: NO to all of the above!

Edit: Native, mushrooms are actually fungi, not plants.

germs, vegans and bottled water crap
